Handsome three-year-old Duke's condition was so dire when he arrived at the vet that the vet thought Duke was in septic shock. The vet diagnosed Duke with hemorrhagic gastroenteritis.
The web site www.petplace.com defines hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE) has "a disease syndrome seen in dogs, characterized by the acute (sudden) onset of bloody diarrhea..." The vet quickly started Duke on an aggressive IV treatment of fluids and antibiotics and his condition was guarded.
That was when his mom came to Labrador Life Line for help. Even though the Board can approve funding for a Lab in distress in mere hours, Duke's case was so serious, treatment had to start even before funding could be approved.
After a few days of treatment, his was upgraded to fair, after responding very well to treatment. According to his vet, Duke was eating so they switched him to oral antibiotics.
It is because of the donations Labrador Life Line receives that gives Labrador Life Line the opportunities to help sick Labs like Duke, get better.
