Nyx was your typical Lab--always curious and always trying to eat everything and anything. Sadly, one day Nyx ingested a Sago Palm plant which turned out to be toxic. When her owners came to Labrador Life Line for help, Nyx was suffering from acute liver failure and had already received 13 blood and/or plasma transfusions. Her liver had shut down due to the toxicity, which prevented clotting throughout her body.

The vet stressed that without continued treatment, Nyx would die.

The day after Labrador Life Line's board agreed to help fund Nyx, we received this update from her owner.

"Nyx was doing better and better and all of a sudden yesterday her breathing became extremely labored and the doctors think she threw some blood clots in her lungs.  They did X-rays and consulted everyone possible, but it just kept getting worse and  it became clear that she was in pain and suffering. They tried an oxygen treatment, but there was no relief. We had to end all treatments and put her to rest so she wouldn't suffer any more.

I wanted to thank you so much for caring about our case. I can't tell you how appreciative we are...It got her at least another day of treatment and it got her one of her best days. She was up and walking around the last couple days, so I'm so happy that she had some good moments before she went to sleep.
Thanks again from the bottom of our hearts!"

Even though Nyx's case ended with tears, thanks to our bighearted donors we were able to make her last days more comfortable.

A few weeks after Nyx's passing, Labrador Life Line received this letter from her loving family.

"Thank you again for all your help. I just received the sweet card from Laborador Lifeline in the mail and I really can't thank you enough for understanding. Please pass that word on. We only hope to be financially able to help someone else in the same situation one day. Until then, we will be contacting various avenues to plead for warning labels to be put on poisonous plants like the one we purchased.  We hope we can at least prevent this from happening to someone else. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart!!!"
