Gracie ate a pound of butter, resulting in intussusception. Intussusception is a rare but serious intestinal disorder. Due to ingesting so much butter, Gracie's intestines produced too much gas and the intestine started to turn inside and eat itself. This produced a blockage. Treatment required a bowel resection.
Gracie's mom, a single parent, disabled and living on limited funds, tried to treat Gracie herself. Unfortunately, too much time had passed, and by the time Gracie finally got to the vet, her condition was life-threatening.
