Nikki is a two year old yellow girl who was one of the unfortunate labs... she was owned by an uncaring owner. She was let outside in an un-fenced yard, wandered and was hit by a car. She was taken to the local shelter. The owner was contacted but wanted no part of her since she had been hurt. The shelter was told to put her down. However, they did find out from the ex-owner that Nikki had ten puppies, five weeks old, at what had been her home. Seeing the potential of Nikki, the shelter called Labrador Rescue of Utah.
After taking Nikki to the rescue's
vet, and x-rays, antibiotics, and pain medications Nikki was found to have the middle
section of her leg completely shattered. Their vet could not handle this severe of an injury,
so a specialists was called in. The vet explain to the specialist about the dog and
the financial situation of the rescue group and the needed surgery was done for a
dramatically discounted amount.
Nikki is doing very well now and will be spayed as soon as she recovers from a
mammary gland infection and the pins are removed from her leg. She will be in foster
until these are done and she is ready for her forever home. As an aside... five of the
puppies mentioned above were given away, and the other five surrendered to the rescue
group.
Thank you from Labrador Life Line - rescue groups are not usually in a position to absorb really high costs in treatment of the dogs that are turned in, your continued support is the reason we are able to continue to help these groups!
