Onyx was a young black Labrador stray that ended up in a Texas shelter. Even though she was extremely emaciated, she would not eat in that stressful environment.
A rescue volunteer took her out immediately and found a foster for her. Her new foster mom took her to the vet where she was immediately treated for worms and started on a special plan to safely get her weight up. Unfortunately, she also was diagnosed with heartworm but in her condition, treatment wasn't an option until she gained some weight.
We are happy to announce that she has gained enough to begin treatment and with Labrador Life Line's help, she has. With the diagnosis of heartworm, it seems a poignant twist of fate that her refusal to eat got her out of the shelter so quickly as you see, this was a kill shelter and in most cases a HW diagnosis is a death sentence. Her foster home has become her forever home, a true happy ending for this starving girl off the streets. Now she has 2 labby siblings and a family that loves her.
