Carter is an eleven year old gentleman who was taken into rescue from a high kill shelter in California where he had been for 2 to 3 months. On review by vet it was determined he had an abnormal gait with incidents of hind end collapse. The vet workup eliminated arthritic cause, so he was referred to a vet specialist, who suspected disk compression in both the Thoracic-Lumbar Spine and the Lumbosacral spine. The vet's recommended course of treatment was an MRI to fully isolate and identify discs involved, followed by neurosurgery to correct the disc compressions. The folks at Carter's rescue group felt he was worth the effort of fund raising even though this was more costly then they would usually prefer, particularly with an older dog, because - they said "Although Carter is not a young dog he displays the energy and spunk of a young dog - his body just isn't able to keep up with him because of this condition. This issue also threatens his potential adoptability, and if resolved he will be a much more comfortable boy with the potential to make someone a loving companion in his senior years." Carter, Carter's rescue group and the board of Labrador Life Line would like to thank you for your support and generosity, allowing dogs like him to get the treatment needed to ensure quality of life. |
