Moses is a 4 year old yellow boy who developed neck problems in February of 2003. Until then he and his mom were part of the MSPCA Pet Visitation Program. Moses visited on a bi-weekly basis the Veterans at Holyoke Soldiers' Home (Alzheimer's Unit) and hospice patients at the Western Mass Hospital. He has a wonderful personality and calm temperament. Moses' neurological findings included significant neck pain on manipulation and a weakness was noted in the front right paw and left pelvic limb. An MRI was performed , results included bilateral, dorsal-lateral compression of the spinal cord at C5-C6 worse on the right side secondary to hypertrophied joint capsule. Mild changes were also noted at C4-C5 on the right side. The surgery approach is ventral traction and PMMA plug (newly described approach for this condition). In talking with the neurologist this approach has been very successful and has a shorter recovery time than the previously used dorsal approach (dorsal laminectomy). Moses human sent us an update as follows:
Thank you from Labrador Life Line. Without your support we would not have been able to assist with the treatment that Moses needed. |
